Everyday we use it.
Yet do you know what it means? We are always asking for the Wifi passwords or trying to log on to Wifi.
Have you ever wondered it stood for? Well it must be Wireless something.
Actually it is a nothing word that doesn’t mean anything or stand for anything.
Wi-Fi Alliance hired Interbrand to create a name and logo for their wireless internet technology, and they came up with Wi-Fi. Several of the Wi-Fi Alliance team were confused by this name and wanting it to make more sense, the tagline "The Standard for Wireless Fidelity" was added along with the name Wi-Fi in marketing communications. This was to help avoid consumer confusion.
Eventually, that tagline was dropped.
And now Wifi is part of our everyday vernacular.
