The Creation of Cult Classic

Ben Roberts

For an original series that was only 3 series long Star Trek certainly has had a huge effect on popular culture.

Though it wasn’t as an instant as one may think.

79 episodes featured with the originally launching just over 40 years ago. Launched at a time when the USA was locked in a space battle with the USSR it was thought it would pull in strong audiences with a show on a topic on this mysterious world that the globe was fascinated in..

However, it ultimately failed and wasn’t until the mid 70’s when it was picked up into syndication that it became a huge hit and cult classic. With its own bonafide Trekkies, it launched into popular culture influencing and spawning more tv shows and movies not to mention the language, symbols, merchandise and conventions.

It is now considered one of the most of the most influential shows of all time.

Which goes to show, it’s hard to pick guaranteed instant success. The first 3 series were duds and only syndication, almost a decade after caused Star Trek to morph into the global success today.

You should never give up hope on your idea as where there is a will there is a way.

Although it just might take a bit of time.
