We all receive spam emails.

Luckily usually they end up being filtered into our spam inboxes so we aren’t confronted by them all.

However the first recorded event of spam mail was a telegram in 1864 in the UK.

In May of 1864, a group of British politicians were in a meeting room and there was a knock on the door. Opening the door, there was a telegram in an envelope. Assuming the note would be of important political business, they were stunned to see the communication inside.

All the telegram said that a local dental practice, run by "Messrs Gabriel," would be open from 10am to 5pm until October.

One of the politicians was so outraged he wrote a letter to the Times. ‘ I have never had any dealings with Messrs Gabriel and beg to know by what right do they disturb me by a telegram which is simply the medium of advertisement’

So as media takes new forms it goes to show people always struggle with the change needed to adapt.

And Messers Gabriel was a Dentist with a creative flair of attracting business!
