Sleep on it

Ben Roberts

Faced with a big decision?

Let your unconscious takeover.

Don’t let your anxiety overrule your decision making. The more you think about it during the day, the more cluttered your mind becomes.

Sleeping on it, halves the problem and gives you better clarity.

It might be cliche but it’s proven to be true. The more consciously we think about a decision, the worse a decision is made.

When  the time for a decision comes tapping into our unconscious thought is what is needed and that’s what sleep provides. Sleep clears our mind, relieves the stress. Sleep also organises our memory, processes the information from the day and solves problems.

In unconscious thought, we weigh the importance of the factors that make up our decision on an even keel, leaving our preconceptions at the door of consciousness.

And then once we wake with a clear head, the decision comes through with clarity and the uncertainty and worry has gone by the wayside.

So next time someone says sleep on it, go ahead and take their advice literally.
