Musical Transformation

Ben Roberts

When iTunes launched in 2003. Everyone thought music was going to die financially forever. So how come a polite, scrawny ginger fella from south England has a net worth of $65 million.

He was creative and connected that's why.

He did the hard yards playing thousands of small gigs and making friends with other artists who were at the beginning of their careers too. Once he broke through in 2012 he still kept it simple.

He collaborates with artists from different genres to extend his reach, he plays folk and hip hop hitting two different fan sets. Headlining at Glastonbury this year it will just be him and his guitar.

Compare that to Coldplay and their productions costs upwards to $6million per tour. His overheads are low, his connections are wide, his collaborations are interesting and his fan base is varied.

Ed Sheeran is a savvy businessman with a creative lens not just an ordinary musician whether you like him or not you have to admire his savviness.

Can you think of other savvy creative musicians or actors? Would be curious to hear... #music #creativity #business
