Happy National Day Singapore

Ben Roberts

In 52 years of independence, Singapore has rapidly risen from a third world country to a first world country.

This is primarily due to one man, driven by ambition and pride his country, Lee Kuan Yew. Known as the father of the Singapore before he sadly passed away two years ago, he led the country as Prime Minister for three decades.

Lee was pragmatic with his leadership and didn't take always take the popular route, he was always looking to the future. He made English a common language to facilitate trade with the west and help integrate the immigrant society. He was disciplined and strict and when people pushed back he said it was necessary for political stability and economic success.

His efforts proved right as today Singapore sits on the world stage as a progressive modern country, cosmopolitan and constantly evolving. With Singapore as my adopted home it's wonderful to live here and embrace this culture.

Enjoy the celebrations Singaporeans.
