Glorious Failures

Ben Roberts

On this day May 6 in 1899, The Eiffel Tower was launched to the world at the opening of the World Fair. Named after the engineer who designed it, Gustave Eiffel (that wouldn't happen these days) it was originally met with howls of disgust and criticism by some of France's leading designers and intellectuals at the time.

Now it's the most paid tourist attraction in the world, an icon of France and one the top 5 most instagrammed places globally.

A glorious failure you could say. #paris #influence #history

Can you think of any other glorious failures worth sharing?
