Dip the Toe

Ben Roberts

Dipping those toes in a little further.

Without always realising it, we like to stay in our comfort zone for as long as we have the support of our peers and command of the tasks we need to achieve and understanding of the role required, we feel safe and comfortable.

Recently I watched a fabulous documentary on the Last 5 years of David Bowie's life. His constant creative output for a man is his late sixties was incredible. Watch it if you can

. There was one thing, he said that really resonated with me.

'If you are feeling safe in the area you are working in, you are not working in the right area. Always go a little further in the water, go a little more out of your depth and when you don't feel your feet touching the bottom you are just about do something exciting'

A great analogy that you should always think about because without it you aren't moving the needle forward. It's not about taking a huge risk but more about pushing that bit further and working that bit harder and then finding that exciting result.

Don't let yourself drift, discover what's in the deep end.

Have there been occasions when you have pushed further with success?
