Another Star fades too soon

Ben Roberts

The Cranberries were such an impactful band in the 90’s and it was sad and unexpected to see the news of the passing of Dolores O’ Riodan yesterday at the young age of 46.

It’s a pattern we often see from musicians that are creatively talented  they are also conflicted and internally tormented.

From Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin to contemporary artists like Amy Winehouse and Chris Cornell. They create memorable music to adoring fans and then become overwhelmed and suffer without those realising.

 The struggle is real.

I spent the day listening to the Cranberries yesterday and forgot how wonderful and touching Dolores’ voice was, tender, soothing and impactful yet you can feel her angst trying to get through.

It’s a sad trait that those who are so creative are often the most troubled.

I hope 2018 doesn’t surprise us with anymore early departures.

And let’s hope that the stars continue to shine for longer.

And to Dolores O’Riordan, your legacy will live on.
